Do you ever wonder what happens to all of the cars that Americans sell or get rid of in some other way? Well, let me solve that little mystery: they get a second “lease” on life in Mexico! Citations and Pacers, Comets and Dusters, Valiants and Novas–they’re all here and still running strong. What a wonderful site! Now, this is not to say that the only cars in Mexico are like these “classics.” On the contrary, Mexicans drive a delightful blend of new and old, and I am VERY happy to say that GM, Ford, and DCX have a healthy percentage of the market. Honda and Toyota? Get outta here! They’re merely bit players in San Juan. I would say that Chevy, Ford, VW, and Nissan are the dominant players, with DCX, Toyota, and Honda in the second tier. Another interesting tidbit is that Chevy appears to be near the top in the SMALL CAR market here. Yes, that’s right, the S-M-A-L-L car market. No, not with Chevettes and Metros, but with the Chevy Comfort and Optra. In addition, there are a lot of Chevy Silverado and Ford F-150 pick up trucks as well. I’ve even seen a Hummer H2 and a few H3’s. And to my GM Orion Assembly brethren, I am sorry to say that I’ve seen only one Pontiac G6–a sharp-looking white four-door. However, the smaller Pontiac G5 and G2 (Matiz) models are a bit more common. As for me, I let my feet do my wheelin’ for me.

When I was there we saw TONS of VW Bugs….they were everywhere. Is that true of what you have seen?

My new wheels are being modeled by my boss, Yuri, under “New Pics.” And by the way, that old blue car pictured is…drum roll please…a blue Chevy Nova. Yes, that’s right, the Nova lives!
